The process of getting a document apostilled in India involves several steps. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) is the central authority that issues apostilles in India, but the process typically involves both state-level and central-level authorities. Here’s how the process generally works:

Table of content:

  1. Identify the Type of Document:

  2. Personal Documents: Birth certificates, marriage certificates, educational degrees, etc.

  3. Commercial Documents: Power of attorney, company documents, invoices, etc.

2. Apostille steps:

Depending on the type of document, preliminary attestation from the relevant authorities is required, in this article we will only cover the process of personal documents. Here make a note that only government issued documents can be apostille, if any documents then first those document must be attested by state home department then subsequent below listed steps can be done.

  • Step 1: If it is non government issued document then first get it attested by state home department. If the document is issued by government office then follow step 2.

  • Step 2: Share a copy of document (which required apostille) to us by email info@ranjanjha.com or whatsapp, we will review it and confirm you if original documents to be dispatch to us or we can proceed for step 3 with a copy of document.

Concept is if the is available digitally in government website the we do not required hardcopy, it the document is having hand written signature or rubber stamp then we required hardcopy. which shall be submitted/ dispatch to our Delhi office.

  • Step 3: Document will be stamp by notary and attested by SDM

  • Step 4: Document will submitted to MEA to affix an Apostille sticker.

  • Step 5: Document will be dispatch to your domestic address. It worth mention here that in our service it's complimentary.

3. Check the Apostille Stamp-Fake or True.

  • To verify apostille sticker, you must have MEA apostille stickers with QR code as shown in the picture, the number in red box is must to have, it will be 13 digit number starting with 900**********. If MEA sticker is without QR code then number will be alpha numeric.

  • Click on Online services and then click on e-register

  • I this page enter 13 digit number as shown above, enter Captcha and click on Submit.

  • If the MEA apostille sticker is correct then it will show the details of the applicant/ document owner, Including name and Passport number. If you submit another ID proof apart from Passport then it will show that document number. Most important is the status "Verified"
